Enrichment

Foundation Year , Year 10 , and KS5 students are able to select enrichment opportunities for each Friday afternoon, these sessions are selected by picking a choice for the whole academic year, at the start of each year they are able to select again for the year ahead. They have access to a wide range of competitions and activities including:

  • Green Power – This is a regional competition, whereby students build a racing kart from scratch and then the year culminates with a live racing experience against other schools.
  • F1 in Schools – Now called STEM Racing. A global competition that historically has sent students around the world from the UTC. Our 2025 team have won the national competition and have received scholarships to Aston University as a result,
  • Bits and Bytes – As part of our Cyber Gold Award status students learn how to code to enhance their curriculum studies.
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award – This national programme is delivered with a view that students are able to secure their D of E Bronze award.
  • Eureka – Eureka science projects give students the opportunity to explore creative, hands-on investigations in science. These projects focus on problem-solving, experimentation, and innovation, helping learners apply scientific principles to real-world challenges.
  • STEM Primary Schools – SUTC students support and deliver STEM enrichment sessions for primary school pupils, introducing them to exciting concepts in science, technology, engineering, and maths. The activities focus on hands-on experiments, problem-solving challenges, and real-world applications, helping young learners build confidence and curiosity in STEM subjects.
  • Combined Cadet Force (CCF) – Cadets participate in all aspects of the Cadet Force programme sponsored by the Royal Navy. This includes water based experiences in the summer and the opportunity to gain national qualifications such as Power Boat Leader. As cadets progress they gain leadership experience which are recognised by the Navy and enhance chances of Officer roles for those wishing to be part of the Armed Services.
